My take and advice on the many social maladies of this age

Socialiga & My Birthday

Socialiga & My Birthday

Birthdays are always somehow for me. I look at people posting pictures with cakes and surrounded by friends a couple of thoughts run through my mind

“Why are you opening teeth for God’s sake? You’re getting older! Can’t you see that???”
“You’ll spend all that money? Just because it’s your birthday? Is that smart? Really?”

It took me a while to actually figure out why and now that I have, *inserts facepalm smiley. See ehn, my birthday is on the 26th of June and for as long as I can remember, that period is always when my account is in the red. Yeah, I was captured by, engaged to and suffering from a broke mentality. Ever since that epiphany, I’ve been better equipped to fight those thoughts when they come.

Firstly, there is so much to be thankful to God for, and like the song says “Ti a ba ni ki a ka ore oluwa, ile a su, ile a mo” meaning “if we are to count the goodness of God, the sun will set and will rise and we would still no have counted them all”
Oh the things we take for granted in this life, if only we were more aware and see the things God is doing for us that we don’t know of, we’d spend every waking day in gratitude to God. I have learnt that and I’m grateful for all He’s done. And can rejoice fully in His promises and assurances for the future.

Do. Not. Let. Your. Current. Circumstances. Prevent. You. From. Praising. God.

And as for the second one, I had an epiphany for that one too. If you die today, you’ll see how useless and almost senseless it is to work so hard, make money (no matter how little or much) and not enjoy the fruits of your work. Even if it is for just one day in the whole year, do something worthwhile and memorable, have fun!

And I did, at least I tried to. The last Socialiga event was on the 25th of June so I said to myself,

“Doesn’t that sound like fun to you?” then myself responded
“For real mehn, you should go”
So I took my own advice and went and it was beautiful. A little chaotic but chaos can be beautiful too.
For my own protection as a celebrity with important standing in the community, a man of my timber and calibre and VIP status, I went with an FBI Agent, my homie Wale

We decided to go in low key, so the MC didn’t have to announce my arrival. We went in and took our seats. Took some selfies to show Twitter that I indeed had arrived

It didn’t take long for us to realize we were sitting in the wrong place, it became apparent after watching the flow of traffic that the fine girls were all seated on the other side. I realized it when I noticed the camera mehn were not even coming to the left side, they were all on the right. I don’t blame them anyway. Give me a camera too and see if there would be one guy in my photos. Well, there’ll be one – Me. I’ll take selfies.

Anyways, he supported The Saints, and I was on the Reds’ side which is a terrible thing as a Chelsea fan but you see ehn, there are many fine girls there so you’ll forgive me. Plus I chose the right side anyway. They won the penalty shootout so I jumped up and shouted yes. After the second match, we decided to take a walk around and collect that Free Star Radler that they said we were entitled to

The Taste wasn’t bad and we gave good reviews, even took a selfies with the Star Lady

Drink in hand, we continued our sightseeing and I saw this beautiful amazing and absolutely breath-taking piece of artwork. It was so stunning it stopped me in my tracks and slowly drew me in to drink from its beauty. If I was an art collector with the bucks, I would have it hanging in my office now. See for yourself

There were a lot of food vendors but it never crossed my mind to check them out (Reason why is already above), we moved around until I saw this

Which to me was impressive. The Socialiga impresses me deeply. That so much can happen off the back of an idea, that an idea so powerful it galvanizes people. I mean, I came all the way from Ayobo which is on the other side of Lagos just because I was fascinated. The number of sponsors they have gotten in the period that they have started is just impressive
I was impressed by what I saw and I give the organizers and everyone on that team kudos. Tiri Gbosas for you all. May it continue to grow bigger and get better and go international, Amen.
Shout out to all the photographers that were there, though it was only one that got me on camera, you guys were amazing. I forgive all of you.

There were games to play but I decided to play spectator not disgrace my grandchildren show off my skills. The Bouncing castle was big and inviting but sometimes you have to respect yourself. Not every time.

When we heard on the PAS that the female teams were about to play, we remembered how important it was to face why we had come so we rushed to our seats and waited not wanting to miss the fun and excitement we expected to happen soon. We waited, and waited and when we saw the male team take to the field. Such a disappoint! We suddenly realized time was going and our house was far so we decided to take in the sights once again before making our departure.
That was when @Ladisays captured me talking to Jade who I was meeting for the first time. She’s really cool and very peng as you can see.

After that we were on our way home. And even though it was not yet my birthday, I had fun and for the first time in a long time I actually have pictures to share that are about my birthday.

I look to the future with hope as my team and I work on The Invictus Project. Great may it be and the beginning of something truly special.
I thank everyone that sent me wishes on BBM, Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. I appreciate the gestures and I pray that you will all always have a reason to celebrate in your life and family. God bless you all.

May Your Days be Rough

My dear friends, may we glean from the wisdom of the ages that stand eternal.
May we escape the flames that rage infernal.
May we depart from folly and be wise
May light enter our hearts as we see with our eyes.

If you have aspirations of greatness, then you must read this! I pray that your days will be rough.

By Tai Solarin, Jan. 1, 1964
I am not cursing you; I am wishing you what I wish myself every year. I therefore repeat, may you have a hard time this year, may there be plenty of troubles for you this year! If you are not so sure what you should say back, why not just say, ‘Same to you’? I ask for no more.

Our successes are conditioned by the amount of risk we are ready to take. Earlier on today I visited a local farmer about three miles from where I live. He could not have been more than fifty-five, but he said he was already too old to farm vigorously. He still suffered, he said, from the physical energy he displayed as a farmer in his younger days. Around his hut were two pepper bushes. There were kokoyams growing round him. There were snail shells which had given him meat. There must have been more around the banana trees I saw. He hardly ever went to town to buy things. He was self-sufficient. The car or the bus, the television or the telephone, the newspaper, Vietnam or Red China were nothing to him. He had no ambitions whatsoever, he told me. I am not sure if you are already envious of him, but were we all to revert to such a life, we would be practically driven back to cave dwelling. On the other hand, try to put yourself into the position of the Russian or the America astronaut. Any moment now the count, 3, 2, 1, is going to go, and you are going to be shot into the atmosphere and soon you will be whirling round our earth at the speed of six miles per second. If you get so fired into the atmosphere and you forget what to do to ensure return to earth, one of the things that might happen to you is that you could become forever satellite, going round the earth until you die of starvation and even then your body would continue the gyration!
When, therefore, you are being dressed up and padded to be shot into the sky, you know only too well that you are going on the roughest road man had ever trodden. The Americans and Russians who have gone were armed with the great belief that they would come back. But I cannot believe that they did not have some slight foreboding on the contingency of their non-return. It is their courage for going in spite of these apprehensions that makes the world hail them so loudly today.

The big fish is never caught in shallow waters. You have to go into the open sea for it. The biggest businessmen make decisions with lighting speed and carry them out with equal celerity. They do not dare delay or dally. Time would pass them by if they did. The biggest successes are preceded by the greatest of heart-burnings. You should read the stories of the bomber pilots of World War II. The Russian pilot, the German pilot, the American or the British pilot suffered exactly the same physical and mental tension the night before a raid on enemy territory. There were no alternative routes for those who most genuinely believed in victory for their side.

You cannot make omelettes without breaking eggs, throughout the world, there is no paean without pain. Jawaharlal Nehru has put it so well. I am paraphrasing him. He wants to meet his troubles in a frontal attack. He wants to see himself tossed into the aperture between the two horns of the bull. Being there, he determines he is going to win and, therefore, such a fight requires all his faculties.

When my sisters and I were young and we slept on our small mats round our mother, she always woke up at 6a.m. for morning prayers. She always said prayers on our behalf but always ended with something like this: ‘May we not enter into any dangers or get into any difficulties this day.’ It took me almost thirty years to dislodge the canker-worm in our mother’s sentiments. I found, by hard experience, that all that is noble and laudable was to be achieved only through difficulties and trials and tears and dangers. There are no other roads.

If I was born into a royal family and should one day become a constitutional king, I am inclined to think I should go crazy. How could I, from day to day, go on smiling and nodding approval at somebody else’s successes for an entire lifetime? When Edward the Eighth (now Duke of Windsor) was a young, sprightly Prince of Wales, he went to Canada and shook so many hands that his right arm nearly got pulled out of its socket. It went into a sling and he shook hands thenceforth with his left hand. It would appear he was trying his utmost to make a serious job out of downright sinecurism.

Life, if it is going to be abundant, must have plenty of hills and vales. It must have plenty of sunshine and rough weather. It must be rich in obfuscation and perspicacity. It must be packed with days of danger and of apprehension.

When I walk into the dry but certainly cool morning air of every January 1st, I wish myself plenty of tears and of laughter, plenty of happiness and unhappiness, plenty of failures and successes. Plenty of abuse and praise. It is impossible to win ultimately without a rich measure of intermixture in such a menu. Life would be worthless without the lot. We do not achieve much in this country because we are all so scared of taking risks. We all want the smooth and well-paved roads. While the reason the Americans and others succeeded so well is that they took such great risks.

If, therefore, you are out in this New Year 1964, to win any target you have set for yourself, please accept my prayers and your elixir. May your road be rough! ”

I’ll talk more on this in subsequent posts. I just might be back!:mrgreen::mrgreen:✌

Ebola: Public Service Announcement

Good morning fellow Nigerians. My name is Boluwaduro Asala, I’m a pharmacist and this is a Public Service Announcement!
Our president Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has declared a National Health Emergency to avoid the spread of the very deadly Ebola Virus Disease. In lieu of this, you are to take note of the following;

Ebola is very contagious and transmitted via contact with body fluids such as; Blood, Saliva, Semen or Body discharges. If you notice, there is one activity where 3 out of the four body fluids mentioned are exchanged. And that my people is coitus, sex, or love making. This is a National Health Emergency my people, and I propose that this activity be stopped for the next three months so as to prevent the spread of this very deadly disease. That also includes oral sex and kissing. If you must cuddle, do so while waddled up like The Baby in a manger. In no time at all, you’ll get so hot, you won’t need the other person. The officials say only visibly sick people should be avoided. I say let’s be safe eh? No sexual activities for 3 months!

Ebola is not air borne, so all of you that have bought face mask; una too try! Unless of course you are one of those people who like to gesticulate with spittle instead of your hands, by all means, protect us from yourself.

Only about 10-30% of people who get infected with this disease survive. I know that sounds small but…no buts really, it’s very deadly! It kills in a few weeks. This is one of those cases where prevention is honestly and really better than cure. This my people is because there is no cure for Ebola

Which is where we come in really, let me shout this very loudly THERE IS NO CURE FOR EBOLA!!! The following are the symptoms of Ebola Virus Disease;
The first and most important symptom is high and sudden fever. When this occurs with

Joint & muscle ache,

Stomach pain,

Lack of appetite,

Sore throat and

Bleeding from the any body orifice that blood shouldn’t be coming out from.

Looking at the symptoms individually, they are fairly common but when you notice 4 or 5 or more symptoms out of 10, you should get help. My advice is; don’t go to the community pharmacy – there is no drug for Ebola Virus Disease. Don’t go and complain to the ‘Omo Ibo’ on your street that sells medicines – he is not a healthcare professional. Don’t go to your village – why do you want to truncate their hustle? Don’t go to your pastor – unless you’re really very sure he/she is a man/woman of faith. Don’t complicate matters with naiveté. What you need to do is to commute yourself to the nearest secondary or tertiary health institutions where they would be able to properly handle the disease.

The patients who survive (10-30%) are often those who were under intensive care, who were treated for the symptoms until the disease ran its course.

Don’t go to a community pharmacy because there is the risk that you will be given drugs for malaria, typhoid and body pains, the symptoms are fairly similar. If it has crossed your mind, make sure you mention it to the pharmacist there, he/she can then direct you to the nearest hospital which is the best thing we can do for you really.

In conclusion, have you bought your hand sanitizer? Don’t beef the manufacturers and importers of the product for increasing the price, its simple economics. Demand goes up, price goes up to. Everyone wants to date models, it’s freaking expensive to. That my people is simple economics, don’t beef them. Buy and use regularly, it is still the safest way of protecting the most exposed part of your body – your hands which you eat and touch every other part of your body with.

Wash and bathe with antiseptic soaps and detergents. Keep a clean environment.  Stay away from monkey meat! If your house is a bat cave, make sure you don’t get bitten! Also try not to feed on the bats.

This is the end of the Public Service Announcement. Thank you for reading. God bless you, God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Take care now!

PS. I did not forget about the salt o. There’s just no need to further abuse our intelligence.

On the GAY topic -The Origins

Before you start reading, you should note that this piece may be divisive and certainly not all encompassing. I was taught to not judge until I have all the evidence or at least enough to be fair. So this piece is aimed at understanding the origins. This is not a 1 in 10,000 occurrence, as it stands, It’s almost a ‘more than 1 in 20(certainly not equally distributed across cultural climes) and that’s quite a number when you put in perspective. Read with that in mind.

Sometime last year, I came across a DVD of the 2012 MTV Awards ceremony on a friend’s laptop, I remembered the ruckus and hullabaloo that trailed Miley Cyrus’ performance at the event and wanted to see for myself so I copied it. I saw the performance with Robin Thicke and I had to admit, that performance was as raunchy as I read online and very well worth the ruckus. I came across something else though, Macklemore won the award for the best song with a social message, he performed it with Mary Lambert and Jennifer Hudson and the performance blew me away but like every rap song, you can only fully appreciate it when you hear it through clean speakers or good headsets where you can hear the lyrics. So I downloaded the song ‘Same Love’ and it immediately went to the top of my playlist for that week; it was on constant repeat. And it got me thinking as well, I needed to get to the bottom of this gay ‘thingy’ so I reached out on twitter to talk to any gay person so as to get perspective on the topic. I wanted to write on it but also not mal-align anyone. I wanted to get into their head and have a feel of how they think and it was whew!

I need to first say that I’m not gay, and should anyone make a move on me, he would get the beating of his life followed by the counselling of his life as well because as my father would say “Aya omode ni were di si, egba ni a ma fi gbon danu” loosely translated as “Madness is inherent in the mind of a child and it’s only the cane in copious amounts that can remove it”. I had my opinion on the phenomenon but I couldn’t write on it without getting some perspective. I needed to know and, more importantly, feel how they processed that information. Looking at a guy and getting sexually aroused?! I mean, does that even make any sense? I look at a girl and I see the works of God, I see how beautiful she is and appreciate her feminineness, her sexiness if you will. I look at a guy and I see a guy, either good looking or not and that is it! So I was wondering how you make that leap from ‘here’ all the way to ‘there’.

My Initial Theory
Before now, I had only given the topic a cursory thought and my theories bordered on the hilarious. For a female to be a lesbian, it had to be that she had dated men for a large part of her life only to realise that it has only caused her repeated heartbreaks and crisis of identity. Therefore it seemed logical that since men are the problem, women must be the solution, they can both still give each other sexual pleasure without having to deal with the monster that is man. For a guy to be gay on the other hand, he was simply sick in the head, I don’t see how you could have kissed a girl, or felt a soft warm body with your bare hands or to have had sex with a girl and open your mouth to say you like guys without having lost some nuts upstairs. There is a large gap in logic there. The male act is more reprehensible than the female by far. I know how it feels when I have not visited the toilet in days and my faeces had compacted and I have to groan in pain as I force it out. That shit is painful I tell you. Now to now imagine someone deliberately inserting his phallus into another man’s anal orifice is just urgh.

The Truth
On a serious note, for a guy to like guys and for a girl to like girls is a perversion, no matter how you put it or look at it. If you do not see it as a perversion, then you need to re-evaluate your stand. God in his mastery created us male and female with different anatomical features to distinguish between us. But those tools are not just anatomical; they are also physiological and complimentary to one another. That the penis in males is located at a location that on the females correspond to the vagina is no mistake. As a side note, I always did wonder how Adam knew where to put ‘it’. The female organ however is unlike the male not just physiologically suited for sexual actions, it is however most suited for its maternal roles, the breasts may entice you as a guy, but you would admit that it makes more sense to the babies whose survival largely depends on them. Therefore, lesbianism and/or gayness are a perversion of God’s intent for our bodies. So again I ask, how do we go from here to there or rather more importantly, why?

The Interview
Like I said earlier, I reached out on Twitter for any gay person to contact me so we could have a confidential conversation on the matter. I was glad I got a response and it was enlightening. The first question I asked was “How long, have you been gay?” his response was that “I had my first gay sex when i was 14”. I had to stop to consider that, how many young children are victims of this act, how many people have their lives changed forever because of one uncle who felt the need to use them to satisfy their sexual perversion? My next question was “Was it a choice or did it just happen”? He said “It wasn’t a choice and it didn’t just happen either” I needed further clarification and I asked for it, he then narrated a story for me “I used to like this uncle in my area, not sexually though because I didn’t know about sex at the time. So one day, the ‘uncle’ wanted my friend to help him do something and he refused, so out of pity I decided to do it. When I was done with his little errand, he invited me to his room; it was a little nice dark room. At first he was lying on the bed and I was sitting, nothing was going on between us but I felt a strong urge to touch him. He himself later invited me to touch him; I felt so much relief so I started touching him. He invited me to hold his private part and I did, after he got hard, he touched me and got me hard, he later started sucking my private part, after a while, I told him I wanted to pee, he invited me to pee in his mouth. That was my first ever cum and it felt so good”. Before you call him ‘omokomo’ or a nonsense child, I’ll want you to know that it was a very young age and kids are really impressionable at that stage and considering the hormonal changes puberty brings, the whole thing can go awry if a child doesn’t have direction.
My next question was “Prior to that incident, were you attracted to females? And after, did you ever feel you wanted girls”? His response was enlightening “I know I’m not strictly homosexual, I’m Bi, so I still feel attracted to girls. As a matter of fact, I have a girlfriend but I have never had sex with a female and my bisexuality tends towards men over 40 years old” I only have passable knowledge on the works of Sigmund Freud on Psychoanalysis but I know I can diagnose the last part. Since his first was considerably older, it makes sense that only older men appear attractive to him. A certain thought was brewing in my mind as you would see in my next question “Can someone be born gay? As in, attracted to guys from day one without having a decisive moment like yours that tilts the scale? ”he responded “Bro I have to be sincere with you, if you’re not born gay, you can never be gay” That threw me off balance I must admit. I was taught children are born with ‘tabula rasa’ a blank mind that is and what society impinges on it is what it becomes. I also know that the argument of Nature versus Nurture is one that can never be concluded, you just pick a side. Let’s complete the interview before I discuss the ramifications. He said “I will let you in on a little secret, gays have a distinct character, and many of them have the ability to conceal that character while others can’t. Gays have this girly character! No matter how much they try to conceal it, if you observe them closely, you will get to see it. Most other ones want to show their masculinity by becoming machos. Most of the six packed and overly muscularly built guys are gay. I wasn’t surprised when Iyanya was accused of being gay though it may not be true. Watch characters like Charly Boy and Denrele, I wouldn’t say they are gay because I can’t say for sure but something tells me otherwise”. The macho thing brings a new twist to it doesn’t it? Is he right, I would not know, but the logic adds up! Overcompensating is something we all do one way or the other so it makes sense to fight the girl in you by becoming the perfect definition of manliness.
He wasn’t done though, he made another profound statement, “You can be forced to have gay sex but that wouldn’t change your sexual orientation, you are either born gay or you are not”. There was something nagging me about that sentence. He went on to further say “Most gays are happily married; I have been with all sorts of men, even though I don’t abuse my gayness. I have been with a priest, pastor, doctor, top politician, lecturers etc, they are everywhere! Most people that came out of the closet, have you asked yourself why? Why did they just choose to, knowing the implications to their careers”? He felt the need to reiterate an earlier point “Make no mistake about me, mine wasn’t a decisive moment. I had always admired that ‘uncle’ before our escapades” what’s coming next will blow your mind. “One thing you must know, growing up as a gay wasn’t easy, no body to talk to about how you feel. No love to call your own. At a point, I felt suicidal. I wanted to take my life! I questioned God. I asked Him why he chose to make me gay in a homophobic continent like ours, I became rebellious to God and to myself but after speaking with one gay pastor in the UK, I accepted myself for who I am. I am now working towards ‘fitting’ into my homophobic environment

Logical Discourse
About what was nagging me, the mindset that they are born this way is one that is hard to stomach. And the gay pastor bit had me stumped. Gay pastor? Come on! I consulted other intellectuals and got their opinion on the matter. If you think you’re born that way, then we must be able to explain it genetically, physiologically, psychologically or spiritually. If it passes all the checkpoints, then we would have to agree that people can be born gay so it is therefore not their fault they are the way they are and accept them.

Genetically speaking, no genetic markers have been identified to lend credence to the genetic claim. When you look at children born with genetic disorders such as Down’s syndrome etc, you can tie it down to the biochemical reason they are the way they are. Multiple chromosomes or extra chromosomes, or other such phenomena have been implicated in genetic disorders. There are also congenital disorders and I am sure this is not one of them. For instance, according to some psychology researchers from the University of Toronto and Harvard University, some children are predisposed to schizophrenia if they are born with Low Latent Inhibition and a considerably low Intelligence Quotient (IQ); the brain wouldn’t be able to handle the influx of information due to the low inhibition and would result in psychosis. In that case, we can identify the source. But in gays, genetics won’t sufficiently explain it, so strike one!

Physiologically, until a gay hormone can be identified, I’d say strike two. The sex organs are a part of the reproductive system hence their purpose is for reproduction. Homosexuality doesn’t perpetuate that, it rather mitigates it. The simple question has been if your parents were gay, would you be born? Remember my earlier question about how Adam knew where to put ‘it’. I’m going to with instinct because I’m pretty sure Eve didn’t come with a manual. God is the originator and master of double entendres in that while reproduction is the goal, it’s not a mechanical act, but rather a pleasurable one. The vaginal canal is present for the delivery of sperm cells to the ovaries but it’s also provides pleasure. So, the function is not pleasure, it’s for reproductive purposes (the pleasure is a required side benefit) so strike two!

The psychology is a fascinating one though, having talked about Tabula Rasa earlier, I’d like to bring Schrödinger’s cat into the discussion. You have a cat in a box with a device that can kill it. You don’t however know for sure if the cat is dead or alive unless you open the box. It is therefore said that the cat is both dead and alive. This is called quantum indeterminacy or observers paradox whereby the observation or measurement influences the outcome. In lay terms, it can be posited that a child can be born with both and which he/she grows up to be will depend on the measuring tool, which is society in this case. A child can become gay if exposed to homosexual acts early in life and can be heterosexual if adequately exposed. You can invoke Nature vs. Nurture here and you won’t be wrong. In the case of the interview above, it can be argued that the encounter with the ‘uncle’ tilted the scales in that direction. If it had being an ‘aunty’ for instance, it would have been something else. I posit that the number of gay people is on the rise because the act is been encouraged. It is no longer seen as an abnormality so more people are into it now. There is also the fact that some people are born with an adventurous spirit and that would push them to try things no one else has ever done or defy the odds to do that which should not be done. Many of gay people got into it because they wanted to experiment and it felt good enough that they continued. You know how they say something is so wrong but it feels so good? This is a typical example.

I think the spiritual angle offers most insight. We would have to start at the beginning though, as in, the very Genesis. Where it is written that “God made man in his own image and after his own likeness”, where it is written that “be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth” Genesis 1:28. From that point of view, it is wrong, wrong and very wrong! Since that’s the only point of view that potentially has a solution, It’s the only one that should matter!
Also in the book of Leviticus 20:13, the bible speaks against homosexuality. If you think that God should relax his laws because we are in the new age, you should note that he spoke against it in the New Testament as well in the book of Romans Chapter 1. God’s stand on the matter is clear; the passage of time does not change the word of God. It is sure, immutable and irrefutable. So, no matter what you may have been told, you should know that God did NOT create you to be gay and do things he has said should not be done.

Having gone through all that, we have to come to a resolution of sorts, expecting the whole world to ditch our ingrained sense of normalcy and accept you all without blinking, is a lot to ask for. It’s like telling a man at 80 that his wife of over 50 years is not the mother of his children. That’s a blow to the gut, a shift of magnanimous proportions, and you expect him to smile and say “It’s nothing”. Before he finishes processing the information and the emotions that come with it, I won’t be surprised if he says he doesn’t want to ever see her again or worse(perhaps bring out a gun if he has one). He may of course later come to a resolution and accept her, but it won’t be easy and it would be a testament to his strength than anything else. It’s a lot to take in when you factor in the fact that we are Africans, ingrained in and defined by our cultures and traditions. When you add religion to that mix, homosexuality as a way of life stands no chance. I personally do not subscribe to violence as it often causes more harm than good even if it’s done with good intentions, so killing gays is not the way to go. Letting the ideology thrive on the other hand is not African.

A fourteen-year jail term for homosexuals is an interestingly hilarious idea, in that it doesn’t help the homosexual man/woman whilst making scape goats out of them, but still not a solution. For a nation, it may be okay for some to die to save the rest but that’s not what the church of God stands for. There is no genetic and physiological basis so there can be no genetic or physiological solution. It can be said to be a psychological (i.e. a state of mind, an addiction, an act of defiance, a coping mechanism, an experiment/adventure etc.) condition or a spiritual one (in which case you implicate the devil). Many have tried to pray it away with little returns:  psychologists too have had a go at the problem with little or no success. What then do we do? Something has to give, either gays change and become straight or the whole world changes our ideology and mindsets. In fairness, both sound like pipedreams but with intervention one can be pulled off. The thing about change is you have to want it badly, be properly informed and adequately motivated to pursue it. A prophet can’t just lay hands on you and poof you’re no longer gay but if you want to change, you would do what it takes. It won’t be easy but I believe it would be worth it.

In conclusion, Africa and Nigeria especially will never accept ‘gayism’ as a way of life in the foreseeable future , if you want to do your thing, do it somewhere else, but if you want to remain on our shores, you would have to get help or just keep quiet. I strongly recommend the former though, God is the creator of mankind, and if anything is broken, He is the one who can fix it. Not a pastor, not a prophet, not even you yourself can fix yourself. Go to God, tell Him what you want and tell Him you’re going nowhere until he does something about it. I’m sure he will turn up. That is my 2 cents.

From the Movies: In the know
I started watching a new series last year, maybe not technically new but it’s certainly new to me. It’s called White Collar and it’s awesome by every standard of the word. The plot is interesting and ever changing which keeps you captivated. They have good writers too, I proudly recommend it. Anyway, the story is about a guy – Neal Caffrey who is an art thief, forger and professional con man. He had a successful career until he was caught by an FBI agent called Peter Burke who heads the New York White Collar division of the FBI. He was sent to jail but he negotiated an arrangement which got him released under the care of Agent Burke as a confidential Informant. In order to keep him in check, a GPS locator was placed on his ankle and he was given a radius of just two miles, anything outside that and he triggers an alarm. Neal and Agent Burke now work as together in solving criminal cases for the duration of his sentence. Together, their case completion rates were in the 90s, meaning they were able to solve about 90% of the cases that was brought to their desk. They were better than most of the other case agents and this was not because Agent Peter Burke was so bad ass; this was simply because he had a criminal – Neal on his team.
What made Neal such an asset was that he was in the know. You know how they say in order to catch a rat; you have to think like one. This was a perfect example; Neal knew everything to know about almost all the cons that came to their desk because in the duration of his career, he had performed almost every one of them at one time or the other so he used this knowledge to now catch the bad guys. This is one of those moments where you detest the act but praise the genius behind it. While this piece in no way supports or advises cons, one must learn from these acts and use them properly.
The secret to their success was the wealth of knowledge that Neal had about pretty much everything. When robbing a bank, you have to take all the details into consideration, know everything about the bank vault, security guards, important members of staff, bank managers and every person that could interfere with the success or failure of the mission. What really amazed me was that he could tell how secure a bank was just by looking at a picture of the lobby. The way the guards are positioned, the position of the cameras and stuffs like that, he even knew which bank had what vault and which way to break into each one. In essence, he was so in the know; he was prepared for any eventuality. He knew who ran what, who controlled where, how long does it take the police to respond after the alarm had been triggered, all this information he knew and used to his advantage which is why he was so successful, both as a criminal and when working for the FBI.
How that concerns you, you may ask. Success is a product of a system, i.e. it has principles and whoever knows those principles is in control of the system. That person would command successful result 90% of the time. If I know how you think, I can control our conversation because I know what you’d say and what you like to hear. I’ll just keep pulling you along; it’s the same with any field at all. The best doctors are those who have all the knowledge needed – either medically or surgically to save lives. The best programmers are those who have the knowledge of all the programming languages, the best pharmacist is the most informed on everything concerning drugs, the best actors are those who are able to immerse themselves in their assigned roles completely and do the characters justice and to do that they must first know their character well, etc.
So in whatever it is that you have found yourself and want to be the best in, I beseech you to take the pursuit of knowledge serious, because it’s the knowledge you have that will give you that extra oomph ahead of your competitors. Being aware of all the different types of procedures involved in producing a product for instance gives you the advantage of being able to choose the method that best minimizes cost and maximise profit, gets things done faster without tampering (or even enhancing) quality. That way, customers will patronise you more than the others who just do theirs the same old way. Knowing everything also arms you with the power of creation, it gives you a bird eye view of how best to do things. It’s like this; you can’t know the shortest cut between two locations unless you know the layout of the entire town.
As a student, it’s not enough to know your books, you need to also know what the lecturer likes to see, know what he expects to see in your answer script and give it to him/her ‘as e dey hot’, you’d see an increase in your grades immediately. Some lecturers want you to write in copious amounts even if you’re writing crap while some others want you to go straight to the point without wasting their time. Some lecturers want you to give them exactly what they gave you in their lecture notes while for others if you don’t put something extra, you’d never get more than average. This knowledge might be the difference between 50 and 70 marks, between a measly 3points and a robust 7points.
If you face everything in your life with deliberate intent, you’d see that the part of our lives that fate controls is very minimal. You can guarantee results 90% of the time if you have the power that knowledge supplies. For instance, you want to woo a girl and you know nothing about her, it’ll be difficult to impossible to wow her or even to impress her at all. But if you come armed with basic knowledge about her and her interests, you’d play to her vanity and before you know it, she won’t be able to stop thinking about you because you’re so thoughtful and awesome. The other guys who don’t put effort into knowing the person of interest before jumping in will look at you as if you use Jazz or something like that. If you practice this, you’ll almost certainly get any girl you want just by giving her what she wants which you would know if you did your research properly.
Are you trying to lose weight? What have you been doing? Jogging or you’ve registered to a gym, eating in reduced amounts or eating certain foods more or less? Has it been successful at all? Do you even know why it has been failing? Do you know that there are better ways of losing weight that doesn’t have you miserable all the time? Do you even know how you actually got the weight in the first place? If you make your research well, not from fashion magazines but from scientific authors, you’d discover ways of losing weight that are easier on you and your body. Do you know that some people, no matter what they do or don’t do will never get fat and some can never get lean? It’s all about what you know really.
My advice to you is – Get in the know and see your life change drastically as your mentality is changed by the power knowledge brings.

Hey fellas, it’s been a while. And I know I’ve been slacking sorta but I can explain. I’m working as the editor of LiveWire magazine and we publish weekly so my attention has been kinda tilted wayyy in that direction. Anyway, Happy New Year to you guys and welcome to my first blog post for 2014. It’s inspired by a post I read on Dan Rockwell ‘s blog

Anyways, here it is. 2014 will be the year of the Deliberate. That much I can tell u now. Read, drop your comments and do share.

Ring the bell!!! It’s the New Year, she has arrived again as is her annual custom. Her unending journey through the tapestry of time has brought her once again to our shores. We are happy, we are glad! Such is the mood whenever she comes around that even before she comes, many take time to look through their lives and decide on things to change so that by the next time the New Year comes again, they would be more successful and be at a better position than we were last time. Whether this actually works is yet to be verified but it makes some logical sense considering. Some have decided to call it New Year Resolutions and the name stuck. It certainly makes sense to want to impress the next year by being better than when she came last.
People write long lists and paste them all around the house where they can easily see it and be reminded of the things they have resolved to do this year. With time it was realised that the long list was hardly completely taken care of by the time the New Year returns. People decided to reduce the list only for them to discover that they more or less successfully do the same proportions year-in-year-out. “This method does not work” they say, we’ll freestyle this year and see how it goes. The New Year arrives and there still isn’t much of a difference in their lives, some were even worse than when they started. Something was missing! What it was and where to find it was as well hidden.
I won’t claim to have found ‘it’, but what I have is a better idea in that it’s not cumbersome in execution, it doesn’t require any form of complicated series of plans for you to make sense out of it. It is as simple as ABC. Don’t make resolutions, find a word! I got this from Dan Rockwell’s leadership blog and it does make sense. You’ve made resolutions and they didn’t really work so why not try something new. Something that could potentially change your life isn’t something you trifle with; you grab it with both hands and use it maximally. That’s what distinguishes outstanding successes and austere mediocrities.
If you take time to think, or if you have adequate situational awareness, you would have something you want to do, stop or change this year. There would be a way you want to reinvent yourself. Once you’ve found that, you’re halfway there. The second step is to take your time and think of a word that permeates as much of the things you’d like to get done as possible. One word that if done right will be the first domino chip that sets the ball rolling.

Do you have anger issues and want them fixed this year? Do you have the desire to drop a few dress sizes this year? Do you have a problem focusing and getting things done this year? You catch my drift… one word! Choose one word that embodies the essence of life for 2014 and let it speak to you everywhere you go. The possibilities are endless. People have chosen; love, discipline, rest, integrity, smile, finish, kindness, joy, patience etc.
To choose your word, look in by finding silence and ask yourself three questions
What do I need?
What’s in my way?
What needs to go?
After this, you need to find your why “The why is always more important than the ‘what’”. The second step is to look up asking God for your word and listening. Don’t stress about your word, receive it from your maker. The third step is by living out your word everywhere you go.
Here are some suggestions for maintaining focus on your word.
Write down your word and post it in prominent places
Create a screensaver with your word
Take a picture of your word and save it on your Smartphone
Keep a One Word journal
Look for sayings and quotes that relate to your word
Find a song that reminds you of your word and put it on all your playlists
Get a removable tattoo of your word.
Like I said, I’m not saying this is ‘it’ but it certainly makes sense and is worth trying. I will and I advise you to join me. When I get my word, I will write about it here and you’d drop yours too. I have been getting a great vibe since we entered 2014; I have a feeling that this year will be a great one, a year for the deliberate. You can’t jonze through this one. Get on the successful bandwagon! This year, we’re going for it! Don’t just read and forget this, take the next step and we’ll all be better for it.

Once Upon A Time

So I started watching a new TV series and so far so good, I’ve been thoroughly impressed. The storyline is great, it’s made by ABC studios and called “Once Upon A Time”. The story is centred on a town in Maine called Storybrooke (don’t bother googling that, it doesn’t exist), and as the name implies, you’ll find all the story book characters we grew up knowing in it; Snow White, Prince Charming, The Huntsman, The Seven Dwarves, Little Red Riding Hood, The Evil Queen, Cinderella, Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio and the ultimate Bad guy Rumpelstiltskin. Now in case you think you know how the story would pan out, I ask you to think again. The writers are good and the actors do it justice, so if you’re a movies person, I’d recommend it, it’s on its Third Season now.

Anywhoo, that’s not the gist, this column attempts to extract life lessons from these movies and I was able to pull one out of this too. It’s about the man Rumpelstiltskin, his (in) actions and how it relates to parenting. In the movie, Rumpel started as nobody, a lowly peasant labelled as the town coward, his life was so pathetic that his wife felt she had no choice but to leave him despite having a child for him and she followed the captain of a pirate ship that docked at the town port (Remember Captain Hook?). He was miserable, poor and could easily have given up if he didn’t have to prevent his son from suffering the same fate he did – living without a father figure. And as it stood, he had nothing in the world but his son.

There was a war going on and it had so ravaged the populace that the soldiers were recruiting children from the age of 14 upwards and his son would turn 14 in two days time. Now this was a man whose only reason for living is his son and the king wants to send the son to battle to die. He couldn’t live with himself if that happened, it’s one thing to be helpless about your own life but when it concerns someone who looks up to you, it’s a whole different ball game and it’s not easy to just sit by and do nothing. But in this case there was nothing he could do; he was powerless against this fate or was he? He thought long and hard and finally decided that they should run away. By nightfall, they took a lamp and ran, they hadn’t gone far when they were caught, the soldier asked for his name and when he said “Rumpelstiltskin”, the soldier laughed and told his son “do you know why your father here is called the town coward? It’s because he ran from the battlefield like a little girl” he and his men laughed hard “and now he is doing the same to you running like a coward” he threatened to throw him behind bars unless he begs him, the soldier made him kneel down and kiss his boot in order to let them go scot free.

If anything is obvious, it’s that his life had many problems (the more accurate thing to say is ‘his life sucked’) and needed serious fixing as soon as possible but he couldn’t see a way out. A beggar on the road told him about Dark Magic and how it would give him Power to control his own fate, save his boy’s life and do whatever he wants. Even if you are not desperate, that’s a solid pitch but to a desperate man who is about to lose everything, that’s a life-saver. Needless to say he took the beggar’s advice and got the magic and the power that followed, the one thing the beggar told him was “Every magic comes with a price” though he failed to mention how much. When the soldiers came to take his son the next morning, he killed them all, anybody goes as far as pushing the boy, the person had to be punished, and he became mean, wicked and unkind. His son pointed it to him and in his defence, he said “didn’t I walk into the middle of the battlefield and command both warring parties to drop their weapons and go home? Do you know how many lives I saved by that action alone? Enough for a dozen lifetimes I tell you”. The more power he got, the more he wanted and the more he got, the more he got the more his son was repulsed by him and was pushed away until he totally lost his son, the son ran away and never came back.

In fixing the faults of his own life, he ended up losing his son. He was no longer called the coward(no one dares try that); he could turn yarn to gold so he had wealth and power with fame to boot. But he lost the single most important thing to him – His son. Where is the lesson you might ask? Nobody is perfect and we all are trying to be better people. However we do that is the point of concern. If you start down a life of crime and wickedness to make money for yourself, if you go about making enemies without second thought, if you keep sowing seeds of wickedness, I think you should know that it’s someone that will reap it. Remember that Karma is a mean bitch, and she never forgets. If she doesn’t catch you, she’ll catch the ones close to you. A life for a life! Be careful you’re not living a life that is setting land mines for your offspring. Are you running an organization in trouble presently? Be wary of the choices you make in finding a way out; be sure it’s not a temporary fix that will result in a bigger tear after you’ve gone. We all will die eventually and it’s our actions and memories that will live on after us.

I have a friend who is chronically lazy; he would practically sit down and expect everything to be done for him. He doesn’t like to cook, sweep, wash and iron, he doesn’t like to go to the market, and he’s not good with homey stuffs at all. If you tackle him, he’ll tell you he has a plan. To deal with the laundry problem, he once said he’ll own a laundry business, get space, purchase a washing machine and employ staff to run the place while he goes about doing other things. That way, he doesn’t have to wash or iron again. Problem solved right? For the food conundrum, he also has a plan. He’ll own a restaurant! Where he’ll have a table in the corner and eat all his meals like a boss. He says he’ll make sure they are able to cook every meal he likes to eat properly. Another problem solved. As for the home situation, he’ll get a housekeeper that will take care of all that. All this before he gets married. Tell me that don’t sound great? Turning his own faults into money making ventures is genius.

Quick recap: you have a man who just sleeps and wakes up in his house; he does nothing whatsoever in its upkeep. This man will get married and have kids. The wife would only have to cook so no biggie unless she is lazy too and they both eat in “Our Restaurant”. But that’s not the real problem, it’s telling your child to go and cook and wash and sweep and do homey stuff when there is someone to do that for you. It’d take great grace for the child to obey so you run the risk of producing spoilt brats who won’t be able to do anything for themselves; a girl who won’t be able to cook and take care of the home isn’t on any guy’s wish list. Problem solved right? Err… I’d reckon no. In fact its multiple problems created. He ‘fixed’ his life only to create problems for his family. And that itself is a potential chain reaction.

So, in conclusion, find a way to fix your own flaws but also think about its potential future effects so that you won’t end up doing more harm than good in the long run. This is a wise course I tell you.
